Allen Families—

You have almost made it three weeks as care give/teacher!  Great job!  You have earned some time off from education for spring break.  I will keep my message short, as I have lots of announcements. 

1. Spring Break—Friday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 12th.  There will be no school work prepared or assigned during that time.  The building will also be locked up and you will not be able to pick up any packets during that time.  School work will again be assigned for your child starting Monday, April 13th.

2. Building Closed—Hamilton County has closed all buildings except for essential personal.  Allen will still have the door unlocked to the front entrance for packet or material pick-up from 10-2 (except for spring break).  Please follow all social distancing rules and only have one person inside the entrance at a time.  No one is to enter further into the building unless they have made an appointment in advance. Custodians have been regularly sanitizing the entrance area.  The goal is to do as much as we can electronically and reduce the need for anyone to come up to the school.  We want families safe and staying at home. 

3. STEAM Day—The district has put together a lot of different STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities and links you are welcome to use tomorrow or beyond.  You can find the information at www.hcde.org.  Click on #HCSContinuedLearning and then Future Ready Students-Full STEAM Ahead.

4. The Hamilton County Schools Librarian Spring Break Challenge was kicked off by the superintendent on Monday.  All students and staff are encouraged to use the hashtag #HCSreads2020 to share what they are reading during spring break.

5. Online Kindergarten Registration Open Now--Online registration for kindergarten in Hamilton County Schools for the 2020-2021 school year is open now, and runs through Friday.  Due to schools being closed at this time, the district has postponed the day planned during the registration period to provide on-site registration at schools.  Parents can access online kindergarten registration on the district’s website at www.hcde.org. Look under the “Parents & Students” tab on the home page for “Registration Information.”  On the Registration Information page, there are several links to kindergarten registration.  Video tutorials are available on the registration site to assist parents with the online process.

To attend kindergarten this fall, a child must be five years of age on or before August 15, 2020. Documents will be necessary to complete registration. Parents can upload the documents required during the online registration process.

Documents parents will need to complete registration
• A certified copy of the child’s birth certificate or officially acceptable evidence of the date of birth
• A Tennessee School Immunization Certificate available from the Hamilton County Health Department
• A photo ID of the parent or legal custodian of the child
• Proof of court-ordered custody of a child living with a divorced parent, custodian or guardian
 
Acceptable documents proving residency (two required)
• Lease, mortgage or deed
• Utility bill (gas, water, electric) dated in the last 30 to 60 days
• Insurance document (home, health, or life)
• A government document showing residency

6. Playgrounds at all Hamilton County Schools are closed due to the Safer at Home Executive Order Governor Lee issued Monday.  The Allen playgrounds are closed.

7. Student Meals—During spring break, meals will be available for pick up only on Friday, April 3, Monday, April 6, and Wednesday, April 8.  Families can pick up meals from school sites from 11AM-1PM.  Hixson and Soddy Elementary Schools will be food pick up sites for the North River area.  There will not be food service on Friday, April 10, because of the Good Friday holiday.

Hixson UMC will provide sack packs on Friday, April 10 from 10AM-2PM.  Students need to be present to receive a sack pack.

8. Daisy Church of God will provide Childcare M-F, 7:30-5:30 and will take up to 50 school age students. Text Jamie LeMay at 580-9799 or email jamielemay@gmail.

They have been approved through the state and are following strict guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Cost is $100/week per child and will provide a meal and a snack. Students can bring homework as there will be a classroom available for this.

This is not tied to Allen, but they wanted to give Allen families and those struggling with figuring out childcare the first option. 

 

Thank you Allen families for all your hard work during this unprecedented time.  I hope everyone will follow through on Governor Lee’s Safer at Home Executive Order.  Please help our community slow the spread of COVID-19 by staying at home as much as possible and observing CDC guidelines like maintaining a distance of at least six feet between yourself and other individuals.  We all have a part to play in keeping each other safe.  As always, if you need me my email address is tillett_chris@hcde.org.  Thank you and have a restful spring break!!
